Saturday Happenings, Family Style

Join us every Saturday for the “G.WIZ Saturday Happening.” The whole family can join in from preschool age to great grandparents and explore scientific concepts introduced by hands-on exhibits, activities or special presentations. Learn about bats, beaches, bubbles, butterflies, electricity, frogs, lemurs, panthers, planets, recycling, rockets, snakes, spiders, and more!

There is no additional cost to the admission fee to participate in our family activities.

                                                                                           
Egyptian Astronomy - May 3, 2008

The Ancient Egyptians relied on the stars.  They were the first to divide the day into 24 hours and the year into 365 days.  Join Dr. Greg Shanos at 1:00 pm and learn which gods and goddesses played an important role in Egyptian Astronomy.  11:00 am hands-on activity – make your own sundial.

National Astronomy Day - May 10, 2008

Join the Local Group of the Deep Sky Observers and the Planetary Society for National Astronomy Day from 12:00 noon - 3:00 pm.  Get an up close view of a giant telescope and if you have a burning question that you want to find the answer, just “Ask an Astronomer.”   11:00 am hands-on activity – pocket star chart.

 “Florida Science Day” Continues - May 17, 2008

“Florida Science Day” will be honored all over the state on Friday, May 16, 2008 with all Florida schools focusing activities on wind energy.  Continue the celebration at G.WIZ on Saturday with hands-on wind-powered activities.

  Lava Lamp - May 24, 2008

Water?  Oil?  Density?  How does this translate into feeling groovy?  Join us for some groovy fun and make your own lava lamp.

 “How People Make Things” opens at G.WIZ - May 31, 2008

Come to G.WIZ for a very special day and enjoy the opening of the exhibit “How People Make Things.” Inspired by the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood television series, discover the stories behind the objects that are a part of this exhibit.  Be a junior Buckminister Fuller and build a geodesic dome for the hands-on activity.
